Sapphire – Song

<GRAPHIC FOR SONG>

Near the end of the writing process of the HAAP “Move It” album John made a comment on the wide variety of music genres on the album so far.  He jokingly noted that we were only missing a reggae song.   CC took this as a challenge and, working with Wilson, wrote Sapphire.

Musically – The idea was NOT to write an actual “Reggae” song but to write a pop song with some Reggae influences.  The music and arrangement were written in a single evening and then passed to Wilson who crafted a wonderful and beautiful melody and lyrics.

Lyrically – It’s a love song written from the viewpoint of someone who sees an impossibly beautiful and stunningly graceful person, while wondering if they are even concious of their own heavenly nature in the first place. A brief story of someone that isn’t even aware of your love but you still dream of them having it.

Also my wife has beautiful blue eyes so the source material didn’t require too much research but I wondered what it would be like to walk past her while knowing that I would never see her eyes again. That thought on its own isn’t particularly enjoyable but it did make for a good starting place for the lyrics.

Lyrics:

V1:
Darkest Night / Brightest moon
Luminous / afternoon
          And then I see you
And then I see you glide on by
To knock the sun out from its
excited sky
And then I see you
Not even try
To hide the universe in your sapphire eyes

Chorus:
Who’d never wonder what it could be, to be with you?
Please pull me under into your sea of the deepest blue

V2:
You ignite / when you move
Cauterize / endless truth
          And then i feel you
          Ultraviolet inside
Shock the sun right from its
delighted sky
          And then I feel you
          Reunify
The blackest night inside your sapphire eyes

Chorus:
Who’d never wonder what it would be, to be with you?
Please pull me under into your sea of the deepest blue

Bridge:
Lost in / Divine
Design with you
I live / to hide
Inside this view
The night / arrives
The light withdrew
Your blaze / remains
Always anew
It’s not like this could just transpire
Without the flames of your sapphire

(solo)

Chorus 2x
