Liquor Store – Song

<GRAPHIC FOR SONG>

At a HAAP rehearsal one night, the booze was running low so we couldn’t even have a drink, John was elected to head up to the liquor store to pick up some Jack or Jim. John said, “Why not both?” and while driving, couldn’t get the words out of his head “Time to make another run to the liquor store”… It just was too good not to use and by the time he had returned, he had the chorus.

It didn’t take long to rough out the rest and Chip was enlisted to sing a rough version before the next rehearsal. Tony Gardo, Chris Eller humored John in playing it, but nothing was done with the song until we were working on the “Move It” album and working with an old live recording from a rehearsal, CC wrote the intro and break section riffs, then arranged the song as it now stands.

Without Chip to sing it, we sat out to find the perfect voice from our list of friends, and Billy Joe Cook from Area 49 / Rodeo 49 was a perfect fit for the feel.

Cheers!

Lyrics:

My baby girl just walked out the door
All dressed up, lookin’ like a whore
I just don’t think that I can take no more
It’s time to make a trip to the liquor store

CHORUS:
I’m pickin up Jack, I’m pickin up Jim
Gonna spend some time with my best friends
I know you can’t fix crap with alcohol
But milk and cookies don’t help at all
I’m pickin up Jack, pickin up Jim
N’ if tomorrow comes I might do it again
Booze won’t make my problems go away
But enough of it will….  sure numb the pain

My boss is ridin’ my ass til it’s sore
Because he says my attitude is poor
I don’t think I can take anymore
It’s time to make a trip to the liquor store

<CHORUS>

<Fill riff>

Sure numb the pain…

<LEAD>

Now my ex is draggin’ my ass back to court
She wants me to pay some more child support
Well I don’t think that I can take anymore
It’s time to make a trip to the liquor store

<CHORUS>

Sure numb the pain…

<LEAD>
