Carolina Babies – Song

Hot As A Pepper Move It Album Cover art

Shortly after meeting his now wife, Pamela, she introduced John to “Carolina Beach” music, which was nothing like the “Beach” music he knew of in Los Angeles.

At the time, he was playing in another band called “The Dockside Band” and as they introduced new songs into their repertoire, some of which were this genre, John decided he could write something in the same vein that featured some of the elements, and the same “shag” groove.

This band’s line-up featured 4 of the members of what would become Hot As A Pepper, one of whom was CC, who was the first to jump on the idea that we could do our own music and helped John to take the roughed version to a finished version, and later expanded upon it more with a new bridge.

“Carolina Babies” is a completely formulaic song, designed from the beginning to capture a feeling, a style, a moment in time. And it accomplishes that, perfectly.

Lyrics:

Carolina Babies

It’s a beautiful day, in the Carolinas
But we just can’t wait, to get this week behind us
When Friday night comes, you know where you’ll find us

Dancing with our Carolina Babies
Our Carolina Babies

From the Upstate to the beaches, from Beaufort down to Bow-Fort
You know what we’re gonna do when we get off work
We’ll hit that floor and work up a good thirst

Dancing with our Carolina Babies
Our Carolina Babies

Dancing and romancing
Dancing and romancing
Dancing and romancing
Our Carolina Babies

Our baby-baby-babies

I can’t wait no longer, it’s my favorite thing to do
Always makes me happy when I’m feeling blue
Oh I won’t turn down the opportunity
When it’s time to go dancing with our Carolina Babies

It don’t matter if you’re a Cock or a Tiger
’cause in the Carolinas, we’re lovers, not fighters
And when the game is over, you know where you’ll find us

Dancing with our Carolina Babies
Our Carolina Babies

Dancing and romancing
